Organ­isa­tions, char­it­ies, com­mer­cial oper­a­tions and indi­vidu­als included, are begin­ing to under­stand the need to expand their digital foot­print in order to be ‘seen through the noise’, but for many, under­stand­ing how search engines help people find rel­ev­ant inform­a­tion or even how people use ‘search’ appears to have an air of witch­craft sur­round­ing it…!

As the very structre of our soci­ety moves closer to a pro­fes­sional con­sumer — prosumer — eco­nomy, how people cre­ate, pub­lish, dis­trib­ute and ulti­mately find inform­a­tion and resources on the web will con­tinue to be of great import­ance for a very long time to come. The need to research just how search — search engine optim­isa­tion — and social media are at the heart of everything are key points to explore in this ‘web nou­veau’ economy.
